BB Named 10 Most Anticipated Films

BB - Official Stills

MoviePilot has included BB Movie in it's "10 Indie Horror Films Coming Out In 2017 You Don't Want To Miss!" penned by Rachel Rumancek. The quote about the project:
Truly a twisted gem, BB is a reluctantly fabulous and insightful thriller from director C.J. Wallis that probes uncomfortably deep into life of a webcam worker and the mind of her unknown and violently obsessive No. 1 voyeur. The cast of BB are previously unknown actors and the movie itself was shot with a two person crew and financed from the very pockets of director Wallis himself.
Recommended for fans of Creep and Megan is Missing, BB draws its fear from the very taboo reality the film showcases. It's nothing far fetched, from not only the dangers of working in adult entertainment but the underestimated strength of a jaded woman.

BB Wins Best Actress Of The Year

BB - Official Stills

BloodGuts UK Horror was one of the first website's to review BB back in August, and they have just nominated the film "Best Independent Film Of The Year" and awarded first-timer Jennifer Mae "Best Actor In An Independent Film". In their words:
When a stalker latches onto an internet stripper, the results are uncomfortable to watch. From a self funded film by director/writer CJ Wallis this could have been a forgettable entry to a genre that has been done better on bigger budgets yet it is the central role of "Candy Cummings", played by Jennifer Mae, that really shines. Delivering a raw performance and barring all, her role is much more than to stand and look good. The emotion in her character and the drive that funds her career choice become all too real and it is Mae who brings this heartbreaking character to life.

BB Movie Review - PopHorror.Com

BB - Official Stills
"BB is an excellent film and a breath of fresh air from a genre filled with filmmakers who seem intent on burying it beneath mounds of poppycock. Stuff like BB is what needs to see wide-release and get talked about by the masses....Sadly, BB will probably slip under the radar of all except the most devoted of horror fans. And that, my friends, is beyond shameful."

BB (2016) – Movie Review

Going into BB, I expected little more than some indie dross cobbled together by a no-talent hack whose abilities were far below those of a troglodyte. But writer/director C.J. Wallis, here making his feature film directorial debut, proved me wrong. Way wrong.

Leah Lamont (Jennifer Mae) needs some money to send her girlfriend, Alina (Victoria Fox), to Bucharest to visit her family. What quicker way for a woman to earn some quick cash than by working as a cam girl? Under the name Candy Cummings, Leah begins performing for lonely men stalking the Internet highways. But one man, Hal Bowman/HornyHal (Kristian Hanson), believes Candy’s attitude towards him signifies her love for him and her desire to be rescued from her life. When he loses a chance to take her on a date, he decides he’ll have to take initiative to win this girl of his dreams.

BB Named Top 3 Film Of The Year

BB - Official Stills

The film review site "Far Sighted" has released their top films of the year and BB cracked the Top 3. In an article named "Mondo Counts Down Year’s Best Exploitation Films," Blaine McLaren had this to say:
This was the biggest surprise of 2016 for me. A simple, self financed movie about camgirls became one of my favorite films of the year. It is bold, chaotic fun that eventually shows the downfall of mental illness and self medication. Besides all of that high mindedness, it is also a story about a woman on the edge who is being stalked by an unhinged veteran.

(Re)Search my Trash Interviews CJ Wallis

An Interview with CJ Wallis, Director of BB
by Mike Haberfelner | December 2016

Your new movie BB - in a few words, what is it about?

BB is about doing any and everything, inside and outside your means, for the person you love.

Basic question of course, why make a movie about a camgirl, and - even if this might sound silly - did you do any research on the subject?
I often have a bunch of 20 minute chunks of films in my head and as new fragments or elements occur to me, they get added to the pile. Occasionally the pieces fuse themselves together and become something that people haven’t really seen before.

A lot of stories I enjoy, things like Taxi Driver, involve the dark-side of the world willingly invited into the lead character’s life for one reason or another.

I hadn’t spent any time on web-cam sites previous to writing this or meeting Jen, our lead. If you’re looking for porn, watching a web-cam girl is like putting on Stairway To Heaven when you want to hear some heavy rock music quickly and just carry on with your day.

BB Movie Review - (Re)Search My Trash

BB - Official Stills
"A very tense thriller that's almost uncomfortable (for all the right reasons) to watch...between a psychopath and a tortured soul...heightened by extremely nervous camerawork and editing, and a intentionally slightly erratic sound mix!"

With nothing better to do and being in need for money, Leah (Jennifer Mae) decides to become a cam girl. After all, she doesn't mind stripping down in front of strangers and masturbating, and is capable of handling dirty talk from faceless perverts with the necessary amount of charm. One thing she really wants to get out of this: Enough money for her girlfriend Alina (Victoria Fox) - yup, she's actually a lesbian - to fly over to her folks in Romania ... and she succeeds in that before too long. But once Alina's out of the country she continues camming - after all, it is easy money...

BB Movie Review - UK Horror Underground

BB - Official Stills
"CJ Wallis presents us with one of the most challenging and honest portrayals of psychosis and paranoia in the internet age with its hypnotic repetition of sound and sight and relevant themes of connection in a forever evolving digital society, and outstanding lead performances, BB is a provocative, transgressive yet very accessible piece of cinema!"

BB (2016)

Starring Jennifer Mae, Elissa Wagner and Carlos Velarde

Written & Directed by CJ Wallis

“BB is the provocative story of a girl named Leah who, under the name “Candy Cummings”, performs strip shows online from her apartment for thousands of strangers per day, never fully knowing the extent of evils that will be watching on the other side of the screen”.

Shot with a hypnotic voyeurism set to a dizzying soundscape of dark pop, BB is an unexpectedly masterful surprise, a crushing and tense thriller about sex and obsession in the modern age. So singular in style and content, it’s Spring Breakers by way of Nicolas Roeg. Unlikely to get the wide release and recognition it deserves due to its graphic content, BB is something you should all seek out.

BB Movie Review - Mondo McLaren

BB - Official Stills "It is easy to say that BB is one of my favorite films of the year"

Expectation can be a very tricky thing, especially with movies and the internet. Rarely can films live up to their own hype, but when I see a film’s name popping up all over…my curiosity gets the best of me. Over the past month (or so) I have been seeing the name BB pop up on sites that I respect. I would quickly skim the reviews and could tell that this was a film for me. BB is a self financed movie from C.J. Wallis that is rough around the edges, but full of interesting choices that make for an excellent first feature.

BB Movie Review - Popcorn Horror

BB - Official Stills "BB is a striking visual collage that lets you pity and understand its complex characters."

A lot of films set out to make you feel queasy and leave you feeling just that. They forget however, to do it in a way that doesn’t just bring that nauseated feeling to table. They’re often gritty, woozy, all Dutch angles and over saturated colours for no reason but aesthetic. Occasionally that’s enough if it’s an especially great example of said aesthetic. Most of the time though, it just leaves you feeling like you’ve drunk a litre of over-flour-bulked milkshake followed by two litres of cola and it’s all curdled in your stomach (speaking from experience here). Great, you’ve made me feel a bit sick. And that’s it. Thanks for that.

Writer and Director CJ Wallis’ BB is one of those rarer films which is seedy, off-colour and often drunkenly shot, but does so with real intellect and meaning.

BB Movie Review - ScreamSirens

BB - Official Stills
"The film was beyond impressive...BB is a twisted story of love and terror that digs to the core of what it means to expose your true self to the world!"

BB is a film drenched in fear. From falling in love to full exposure as a webcam girl, we witness a woman take risks, exploring trust in all form in the pursuit of an authentic life, but when all forms of trust are broken, BB leaves you free-falling, stomach in your throat, no solid ground in view.

Actor Jennifer Mae (Leah Lamont/Candy Cummings) immediately draws you in. She’s strong, yet vulnerable which is perfectly emphasized in her costume changes from real, to cam girl life. From the beginning, she is exposed. Her body, her love life and her sex life stand, uncovered to, many times, uncomfortable levels for the viewer.

BB Movie Review - Morbidly Beautiful

BB - Official Stills "It’s truly impressive what Wallis was able to achieve with such a small amount of money and a scant two-person crew. This film looks and feels much bigger than it is. This is independent film at its finest, and I recommend it without hesitation!"

SEXY, STYLISH INDIE HORROR OFFERS REVEALING LOOK INTO THE DANGEROUS WEB CAM WORLD

One of my favorite things about being a film reviewer is the opportunity to discover and help others discover hidden gems — truly independent films that get very little fanfare or exposure, but often represent some of the best and most surprising filmmaking. I recently had the opportunity to check out one such film, BB, the debut feature from filmmaker CJ Wallis.

BB Movie Review - Horror Freak News

BB - Official Stills "BB is getting plenty of positive reviews, but I can’t offer it more than a 3-star rating.  That’s certainly not the kiss of death, but not the ultimate bit of glowing praise a filmmaker might want either"

Leah Lamont (played by Jennifer Mae – who also co-produces here) – otherwise known as Candy Cummings – takes a job as a web-cam girl – doing strip-tease, masturbating for her on-line clients and playing out the many varied fantasies for those on the other side of the camera.  Her initial reason for taking the job is to make some quick cash so that her girlfriend Alina (Victoria Fox) could return home to Bucharest and reconnect with her family.  Alina falls into the same old traps she once escaped (mostly drug use) and refuses to return Leah’s calls.  Adding to Leah’s frustration over her deteriorating relationship, one of her on-line customers and apparent war veteran “Horny Hal” (Kristian Hanson – also co-producing) begins cyber-stalking her – illegally tapping into her web-cams and following her every move.  He loses out on a date that “Candy” has offered, and he violently reacts by beating up the actual lottery winner of the night out.  Eventually, he kidnaps Leah.

BB Movie Review - Mr Rumsey

BB - Official Stills "Its early scenes, exploitative as they are, at least hint at an interesting movie; maybe one about relationships and the meaning of fidelity; maybe one about the ambiguous nature of exploitation; maybe one about the nature of drug addiction."

We venture into this synth infused take on camgirls, obsession and exploitation…

Our hero is a girl named Leah Lamont (Jennifer Mae) rather than, as you might have assumed, BB. Like several of the films’ characters, she has an alliterative name; perhaps this is set in some sort of adult version of the Marvel Universe. I say an adult version as, in the first scene of the film, LL attends an interview with Madame CC – Candace Camera – in the hopes of becoming a camgirl. A camgirl is a type of adult performer who engages in video calls with clients, who can pay to see them perform certain acts. LL takes on a stage name of CC – Candy Cummings – and, for a brief time, the life of a camgirl looks rosy; she’s raking in enough to buy her Romanian-American girlfriend first-class tickets to Bucharest, to visit her family during a time of crisis. But, wouldn’t you know it, before too long things have turned sour; her girlfriend may or not be involved with dodgy drugs and a dodgy ex and, more immediately concerning, she’s being stalked by a wounded veteran with a screenname of HH – HornyHal – though only we, the viewers, are privy to his identity, which is made clear to us in a series of his taped video-confessions.

BB Movie Review - Escapist Magazine

BB - Official Stills
"A strong independent movie, BB is worth your time!"

BB - The Camgirl Stalker Movie You Didn't Know You Wanted
by Matthew Parkinson, September 25th, 2016.

Directed and written by C.J. Wallis. Produced by Brandon Eames, Mousa Hamdan, Kristian Hanson, and Jennifer Mae. Release date: August 18, 2016.

It's often the case that the best films go unseen - in large part because of the way that the Hollywood system works. Gross simplification incoming. As budgets increase, filmmaker creativity goes down. You need to appeal to the masses in order to make your money back - if you're able to get financed at all. Lots of smaller movies make it onto the festival circuit, but distribution isn't guaranteed. And then you have something like BB, which was self-financed and released on its own website. You won't see something like it at your local multiplex, or even likely at a normal festival. It's a niche film but a good one.
